Womb
2nd Year, 2021
Womb is a space for students to travel to so they can get away from the stressful and anxious surroundings of university life. It is located at an easily accessible site close to the main library of Dundee, specifically Small’s Wynd street. With many students passing by the library, they will be intrigued by the design’s vibrant colours and the unusual structural shape. They are able to socialise with one another, sit, relax and take their minds off university work through an experience they have already encountered but can no longer remember. It takes them back to their first interior space cradling the body into the fetal position. Doing so through using synthetic rubber and bungee rope to shape and mould the body into position.

Final Model
Their is also an incorporation of fingers and hands that have been woven into this design. There are 5 ‘body cradler’s’ because there are 5 fingers upon the body. The bungee rope that is intertwined from above represents the creases upon your hand. The rope from above stretches and moves when the ‘body cradler’s’ are being used, to simulate a hand opening, closing and seeing the creases move.

Concept Image
This final contextual image shows the exterior of the space, you are able to see the silhouette of the body from the material stretching round protecting them from falling. It has entrances through the gaps between the ‘body cradler's’ allowing access for wheelchairs to fit through to join the experience.
